Last week I was memorizing 1 Peter 5:7. I thought I would unpack this very familiar verse for all of us and give a new translation that tries to bring out what Peter wrote. I will bring out more of the nuances in my translation and still stay very close to the text. 1 Peter 5:7 "We have cast all our (actually your plural) anxiety on Him because it is a care to Him concerning us (actually you plural)." We see from this verse that He does not just care but he cares about your worries. The word for "care" can also be translated, "He is concerned" about our worries. God is concerned about our anxieties. Another thing to note is that this verse says that we should have already given God our present and future worries! This verse states that we have given God all the worries in our whole life. Peter shows us this by talking about "casting our anxiety" in the past tense. He also talks about all our anxieties as one anxiety, and viewing all our anxieties in our life as one that has already been thrown on God. Casting our anxiety on God requires faith that God will take care of us and is more capable and concerned about us than we are.
