Ketogenic diet

3/10/2015

Someone ask me how I would eat a high fat diet so I thought I would share one day with everyone.

Coffee with 1/4 cup cream w/2  TBSP of butter w/ 1 TBSP of Coconut oil (can blend if desired)
(22g fat 2g pro 2g carb 206 cal.)(22g fat, 200 cal)(14g fat 130 cal) 536 cal

Coffee (lower calories) with 1/4 cup cream and 1 TBSP of butter =306 cal.

Salad: 4 TBSP sour cream with salsa, romaine lettuce, avocado,4 olives,1/3 cup cheese,
(12g fat  4g carbs 2g protein 120 cal)(1g fat 4g carb 2g pro 40 cal)(15g fat 2g pro 2g carb 167 cal)(2.5g fat 0 pro 1g carb, 25 cal.)(9g fat 7g pro, 110 cal)=462 cal

Pecans, Macadamia nuts, walnuts, (1 oz of sunflower seeds)
(1 oz 198) (1 oz 201)(1 oz 183 cal)

2 egg Omelet w/ 1/3 cup cheese,4 olives, salsa, onions, orange bell peppers, (I do not eat more than 4 a day)
(10g fat 14 protein, 160 cal),(1/3 cup 9g fat 7g pro, 110 cal.) (2.5g fat 0 pro 1g carb, 25 cal.)=295 cal

1 TBSP of fish oil = 122 cal.
4 Multi-Wow pills (1 with my coffee, 1 at 2pm, 1 at 6pm, 1 before bed)

Omelet 295 cal + salad 462 cal + coffee (lower calories) 306 + 1 oz of Pecans 198 cal + 1 TBSP fish oil 122 cal=1,383 cal. (you can adjust it to how many cal. you want)

I eat all my meals in a 4 hour period (i.e. 2pm to 6pm). The coffee I drink in the morning as I feel hungry (I sip on it). I would eat the salad at 2pm and the omelet at 6pm so I have time to use the carbs that are in the salad. (Tip: A good time to go for a walk is at 3pm (after you eat)(if you are going to do a small "cheat" do it right before you take the walk)) A good "cheat" food is very dark chocolate like 86% coco. I eat 2 squares or so.

Other foods you might be able to eat: hot dogs (I like Costco sausages), fish oil, high fat beef hamburger, (I eat bacon and sausage), extra avocados, nuts that I listed, beef sticks, cheese, pepperoni, summer sausage, You can also add in non-starchy vegetables after you are burning fat for energy like cauliflower, green beans brussel sprouts, and salads (non-starchy) with vinaigrettes

The general the "rules" I go by is to eat about 70 grams of protein. I also think eating non-starchy vegetables are the best carbs and they come with lots of vitamins and minerals but I wait on eating them until I am in fat burning mode until then I make sure I take my Multi-Wow (I need the vitamins).

This diet is great for inflammation, weightloss, blood sugar sensitivities, and is great for the brain as your brain loves ketones (fats). Always talk to your doctor before you start a diet program. This is not meant to treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Large Components In Health

This chart is a rough estimation of what I think is important for health. I see nutrition as the highest priority so that is why I put vegetables and vitamins as the most important. If the meat was fish with a lot of omega three's then it would be a higher percent and if it was red meat it would be a little lower, but in general I hope you can see what I see as the most important and things that are important. I also left a lot off of this chart as it could get very complicated, so just look at it as a general look at health.

Lipoic Acid for All

These are a few of the reasons why I selected ALA to be in Multi-Wow. Every nutrient has its benefits* but ALA has a lot. I think that ALA shines even brighter when it is put with other nutrients because it creates a synergism that is stronger than the one alone. This reminds me of what the bible says in Ecclesiastes 4:12, "a cord of three strands is not easily broken".
I also think that ALA is very essential for anyone who has type 1 or type 2 diabetes. It has so many ways of supporting* the body for diabetics. It has been used in Germany for over two decades for this very purpose and now has research to back up its supporting* role in the health of diabetics.
ALA is a supplement that I take everyday in Multi-Wow to support* my kidneys, liver, and over all well being. I would encourage everyone to think about taking it.

Blood Pressure take two

I wrote a post here about a year ago that talked about some great foods for supporting* blood pressure (5 stalks of celery and a banana every day) *See disclaimer in picture. I then published this list of things I would do to support my blood pressure on facebook. I thought that I would also put it here on my blog.
So after I eat my celery and banana I would add a few of these 7 things to my life. I would first add Fish Oil, Magnesium, and Multi-Wow (which has Vit. D) because I think you get other health benefits from these in addition to the blood pressure support. These also are very easy and do not make me smell.
Garlic on the other hand does make me smell but has been shown to lower blood pressure in several studies. This works for some. I think I would start out fine but have to stop because after a month or two the smell would get to me. My fourth choice would have to be the L-Arginine and then the Hawthorn Berries.
I probably would end up eating the garlic if I still needed more support.

These is no substitute for talking to your doctor and these supports are for people with blood pressure in the normal range.  If you have high blood pressure talk with your doctor.

Here are a few of the ways it supports the body. There are also some interesting studies on how it may support your body before, during, and after a heart attack. * see disclaimer at bottom of picture

How Vitamin E Supports our bodies.

I have been posting a lot of my post on our Facebook page, but I wanted to let everyone see my latest post. I am doing a series on how different supplements support our bodies. This post is talking about a few ways that vitamin E supports our body.
Vitamin E is great for your eyes and in my opinion is a close 2nd for supporting your eyes from cataracts (with vitamin C being first). It also is useful as an antioxidant in the skin and has been shown to thin the blood and help your cells not be to sticky (decrease platelet aggression).
I think almost everyone needs 200 IU's of natural d-alpha tocolpherol not the synthetic dl-alpha tocopherol version that does not work as well. Some may even need more because some of these effects take higher doses than that, like supporting cells from being to sticky will probably take between 800 IU and 1600 IU.

Natural Ways To Support Parkinson's Disease

12/18/2012

I know some people who have recently been diagnosed with Parkinson's and I was asked to look into some natural things that would support their body and mind. I found a few things that have good evidence for helping your body and one that I would use because it just makes good sense for those who have Parkinson's. The common sense support is just a food. The food that I would eat if I had Parkinson's is Fava beans.

Fava beans are one of the few natural sources for L-Dopa, which is an amino acid that is converted to dopamine in your brain. Since Parkinson's is a lack of Dopamine in the brain, I think that giving your body all it needs to support dopamine levels is a good idea. Fava beans have not been studied for Parkinson's, but they cannot hurt you, and the fact that they produce L-dopa will help with your ability to produce dopamine. Another added benefit is that you can grow them and they are, therefore, cheap. The amount that has been suggested to support dopamine in the brain is 16 oz of Fava beans or 2 to 6 oz of sprouted Fava beans a day. When you sprout the beans you raise the level of L-dopa in the bean so you can eat less.

One thing that I have wondered is: how do they taste? To answer this question I am growing my own this winter. Yes, this winter, Fava beans are a cold weather bean. They also seem to grow rather quickly in the winter. In the picture of the Fava beans that I have with this article, you can see each week since they have come up, three weeks and three pictures.

Two other things that have been shown to support the health in people with Parkinson's are raising glutathione and intaking high levels of fish oil for the EPA and DHA.

The first of these two can be done by Multi-Wow. Many ingredients in Multi-Wow have been shown to increase your levels of glutathione in your body. I saw one person who had Parkinson's that took Multi-Wow and by my obervations, after taking it, they were taking bigger steps and were able to stand up from a seated position a little faster. They also said that they thought Multi-Wow was helping them feel better.  While the results from taking Multi-Wow are not nearly as dramatic as intravenous glutathione, it also is a lot cheaper.

The second thing you can do is to take fish oil with high levels of EPA and DHA (5g a day). You might ask, what does DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) do in the brain for people with Parkinson's? Well, it keeps your brain cells from dying under certain conditions (Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (2009, April 20) Fish Oil Protects Against Diseases Like Parkinson's) and it also, according to some experts, reduces inflamation in the brain and may increase dopamine production. Fish oil is very safe, but you should aways see your doctor before making major supplement changes, especially if you are on medication or you are going to take more than 3g a day. If you are on any blood thinning drug, I would see my doctor before I took any fish oil, as fish oil does thin the blood.

I hope that these tips are helpful in supporting the health of people with Parkinson's. Growing your own fava beans can be fun and inexpensive. I will keep you updated on how they taste and what foods I add them to.

I hope these tips can help you or someone you love live a full and rich life, and that you enjoy eating the fava beans too!

How to Make Vitamin A Safe?

12/11/2012

Vitamin A in the form of retinol, which is in cod liver oil and some supplements, can lead to overdose. When it comes to supplementing with vitamin A, I try to get it in the form of Beta Carotene and not Retinol. This will take away all chances of an overdose and still gets you all the vitamin A you need.

When it comes to cod liver oil I have been asked what the difference is between it and fish oil. The answer is that cod liver oil has vitamin D and vitamin A in it, whereas Fish oil does not. I take fish oil because it is possible to overdose on the vitamin A in cod liver oil if you take too much. One Tablespoon of cod liver oil contains 13,600 IU of retinol and other natural forms of vitamin A which is well above what I want.

On the other hand, Beta Carotene is far safer because your liver converts it to vitamin A on an as needed basis (just as God designed) so you will never overdose. Beta Carotene is in many supplements (including Multi-Wow) as vitamin A and is the precurser to Retinol, not Retinol itself, therefore it is safer. If you want to eliminate your chances of overdose I would take fish oil and then supplement with Multi-Wow which only has Beta Carotene as vitamin A.

Best wishes.

Combination for Great Health

Eating the best we can is always a great idea and can give you lots of great vitamins and nutrients.  However, there are a few nutrients that are hard to get enough of even in a great diet. Nutrients like vitamin E, L-Carnitine, ALA, and Q10 which are in some foods but not at high levels.  L-Carnitine is in red meat like steaks.  Vitamin E is in nuts, seeds, and wheat germ.  Q10 is in salmon and ALA is in brussel sprouts. All of these nutrients are at fairly low levels in these foods and are hard to get optimal amounts through diet alone. This is where Multi-Wow can help boost these and other nutrients that are hard to get, as well as, give you nutrients to fill in the gaps if you did not eat the perfect diet everyday. If you add exercise to this mix of food and Multi-Wow (in the form of sprints & super slow) you get a great combination for health!

Blessings From the VitaPastor,

Marshall Ollie

A Few Things That May Help Tension Headaches!

11/10/2012

I recently had a friend that was having tension headaches and asked for things that could help reduce them.  I mentioned that taking 200mg of Magnesium citrate before you workout or have a massage might help because magnesium is a muscle relaxant. This takes a few months to relax your muscles so you do not get tension headaches.  If you want a quicker fix you could try Kava Kava which is a muscle relaxing herb (See your doctor if you are on any other medication).  I also mentioned that for migraines Q10 works well for most people. These nutrients have good studies behind them and/or have worked well for my family and I.

VitaPastor,

Marshall Ollie

FYI: Magnesium citrate works best for my wife. God Bless.
